Education Advisory Team

The Education Advisory Team is a standing committee that supports the education focus of HPNA’s Mission Statement. The team will advise on the development of educational resources for HPNA members (e.g., conferences, publications, and continuing education programs).  The Education Services Committee and Education Products Committee were merged in 2013 to form one Education Advisory Team.

2012 HPNA Education Accomplishments

·         Approved newly revised position statements The Value of the Nursing Assistant in Palliative Care; The Value of Hospice and Palliative Nursing Certification; Evidence-Based Practice; Pain Management

·         Approved position statement Role of Hospice and Palliative Nurses in Research

·         Collaborated with American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) to offer the 2012 AAHPM/HPNA Annual Assembly in Denver, Colorado

·         Presented the 6th Annual Clinical Practice Forum: Managing Complex Chronic

Illness: Trajectories and Transitions with inaugural poster presentations by attendees.

·         Initiated planning for 2013 HPNA 7th Annual Clinical Practice Forum: Integration of Palliative Care Concepts: Neurological Conditions, October 3-5, 2013, Pittsburgh PA.

·         Facilitated 3 ELNEC-Core Trainer-the-Trainer courses in 2012. Over 230 in attendance.

·         Newly translated – 4 into Spanish, 1 into Chinese

·         Completed two new educational products Core Curriculum for the Long-Term Care Nurse and an Approved Educator resource Psychosocial Impact on Managing Pain and Associated Side Effects

·         Revised two educational products: Compendium for Treatment of End Stage Non- Cancer Diagnoses: Hepatic (2nd ed.) and Core Curriculum for the Advanced Practice Hospice and Palliative Registered Nurse (2nd ed.)
