As spring begins to return again, our country takes time to recognize the outstanding contributions made by nursing professionals.  On behalf of the HPNA Board of Directors, I would like to express our appreciation for the commitment, dedication and passion of hospice and palliative nurses.  As our membership grows we are expanding our influence on the quality of end of life care in the country, and beginning to reach other countries as well!

Nationally, we celebrate nurses in May and nursing assistants in June.  As a profession, nursing is always on the forefront leading the way to help improve care for patients entrusted to our care.  Nursing has traditionally looked beyond the immediate bedside of today's patient to the future of healthcare.

HPNA supports this vision for end of life nursing by providing support to all levels of the nursing profession.  From the nursing assistant, to the LPN/VN, the RN and the Advanced Practice Nurse, HPNA provides advocacy, educational opportunities, research support and special forums and chapter affiliations to assist members in providing the best quality care for all individuals facing life threatening illnesses.

HPNA celebrates and appreciates all the nurses who are providing excellence in end of life care across the continuum of Palliative care.  This care is provided in homes, hospitals, clinics, and numerous types of care facilities. Hospice and palliative nurses come in daily contact with people in crisis and who are dealing with overwhelming challenges. The dedication, competency and professionalism of these nurses enrich the lives of all who come in contact with them.  You are the real heroes in healthcare today as we work together to improve end of life care.

In tribute to and recognition of our membership, the HPNA Board of Directors has made a donation of $1000 to the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation. The Foundation provides support for scholarships and research grants for nurses and nursing assistants working in the field.
