June 2007 In
June 2003, discussions began with representatives of HPNA,
NBCHPN and HPNF, and a consultant to discuss how we could
collectively move forward to have a greater impact on
communicating the value of providing excellent nursing care at
the end of life for all Americans. Our unified vision is
to ensure that all persons become aware of the impact of those
with hospice and palliative nursing care knowledge and expertise
and their ability to deliver high-quality end-of-life care.
The desire to achieve this purpose has lead to the formation of
the The mission of the Alliance for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Nursing is to serve as the unified voice in hospice and palliative nursing to integrate and coordinate end of life care with other members of the interdisciplinary team, to act as a visionary for specialty trending nursing issues, to be a primary resource fostering excellence in hospice and palliative nursing, and to advance end of life care for the benefit of the public at large.

hospice and palliative education.

hours and includes a workshop on Navigating Through
Establishing/Updating Goal of Care
by Virginia Valentine, MS, RN, CHPN, which provides a discussion
of the new 2008 Conditions of Participation requiring stronger
documentation of the measurement of care delivery. In addition,
a workshop will be held on B.O.A.T.I.N.G: Before Offering
Another Treatment Identify New Goals,
which is a one-act educational play by Jill Bixby, NP, MA, BSN,
providing insight into the benefits and burdens of treatment at
the end of life. Jill
received the 2007 HPNA Innovation in End-of-Life Nursing Care
Award for this project. Click

Philippino, Native American and Latino cultures. We are
currently seeking experts for Chinese, Asian American, Polish,
Tongan, Vietnamese, Hmong, Spanish and African American

Two-fold
Goal of 2007 Annual Member Appeal The
2007 Annual Member Appeal began May 1, 2007 with
letters sent out to the membership.
The drive ends December 31.
This year, the Foundation has two goals
for the appeal: to increase the number of member
donors proving “The more, the merrier!”, and
to increase the amount given by previous donors.
New donors are asked to contribute a
minimum of $21 representing the 21st
Year of HPNA and the 21 awards, scholarships and
grants overseen by HPNF this year.
Previous donors are encouraged to
increase their giving by stepping up to a higher
dollar amount.
May
Results: In
the month of May we had 84 new donors!
Nineteen out of 34 previous donors
increased their contributions in the same time
period! It
is easy to make your 2007 Annual Member
Contribution.
