Using the principles
of BASICS (Background, Assessment, Symptom/Situation, Interpretation, Communication
and Successful Outcome), this interactive multi-media CD ROM CD provides a framework
for MD/RN ‘best practice’ end-of-life communication using the principles of the
BASICS technique.
Participants utilize six
case studies to learn the BASICS technique by assessing patients with common end-of-life
symptoms, and then by interpreting their finding, develop Interventions.
Once the challenge is complete, participants will hear the communication
between the nurse and physician. Causes
and interventions are reviewed for each symptom along with anatomy, physiology and
pathophysiology for the corresponding systems.
