Your nursing assistants are caring for Veterans – one in four people who die in the United States each year is a Veteran! The Palliative Care Nursing Assistant Training Modules include seven 2-part interactive self-study modules on general palliative care and the unique needs of Veterans with life-limiting illness. Each module has been divided into 2 parts, with each part taking approximately 30 minutes to complete. Interactive elements include a Jeopardy® style game in the symptom management module; matching and “put in the correct order” questions; and case studies with “what would you do” questions. Letters and other writings from Veterans and their family were also used. At the end of each module, the nursing assistant can take a short post-test and evaluate the module to receive a certificate of participation.
The seven modules included on the CD are:
- Communicating with Veterans at the End of Life
- Pain Management at the End of Life for Veterans
- Symptom Management at the End of Life for the Veteran
- Care of the Veteran and Family When Death is Nearing
- Care of the Veteran: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
- Care of the Veteran: Spiritual Distress
- Care of the Veteran: Substance Use Disorder
