Compendium of Treatment of End Stage Non-Cancer Diagnoses: Heart Failure, 2nd edition written by Beth B. Fahlberg, PhD, RN and Joan T. Panke, MA, RN, ACHPN®

Compendium Editor: Patrick J. Coyne, MSN, APRN, ACHPN®, ACNS-BC, FAAN, FPCN

The American Association of Heart Failure Nurses proudly endorses the Second Edition of this Compendium.

The Compendium is a series of seven books designed to serve a resource in constructing an appropriate plan of care for individuals and their families experiencing these diseases. These modules examine the incidence of each disease process, the pathophysiology of the illness, appropriate assessment techniques and treatments as the disease progresses. The modules further define the psycho-social implications. The modules specifically question the potential ethical, economic and research implications as related to each specific disease process.

Patients in the advanced stages of heart failure have deteriorating cardiovascular function leading to symptoms such as fatigue and dyspnea. The need for heart failure patients to have palliative care principles integrated along with traditional medical management strategies has been identified. However, the implementation of palliative care in heart failure has been limited. The purpose of this compendium is to describe approaches to caring for patients and families living with heart failure that incorporate palliative care principles and practices with best practice principles of heart failure management. The need for ongoing research to address the global burden of advanced heart failure will also be discussed.

Compendium of Treatment of End Stage Non-Cancer Diagnoses: Heart Failure is available alone or in a collection of other six-second editions (i.e., Dementia, Neurological Diseases and Trauma, Hepatic, HIV/AIDS, Pulmonary, Renal) bound in one book.
